ONE OF THE BEST ON-SHORE WIND SITES IN EUROPE

The northern shores of Kola, in the north-west of the Russian Federation are among the best onshore wind sites in Europe. Average wind speed is around 8.9 m/s (32 km/h), well above the requirement for optimum wind turbine performance. Thanks to the Atlantic Gulf Stream, the region has a relatively mild climate with average temperatures of +15ºC in summer and –15ºC in winter. Another advantage is that wind capacity is strongest during winter and ideally complements the generation of hydro power during summer in the Murmansk region.
